Home Studio Setup Must Haves for High-Quality Voice-over Audio

Are you a voice-over artist who has recently thought of setting up a home studio? Remember that only a great voice, an excellent script, and a highly professional voice editor and director will not give you that professional edge that every voice artist craves. You must have the right kind of equipment too in your home studio.

Here are six such pieces of equipment listed for you that are must-haves in your home studio. Let’s get started.

  • A microphone

The first essential piece of equipment that you need in your home studio is a good quality microphone. Since the microphone is the fundamental tool that will be capturing your voice flawlessly, you cannot afford to pick up a run-of-the-mill tool.

Similarly, an ordinary USB microphone is also not suitable for you. Do not mind investing in an expensive microphone that preferably belongs to the XLR category so that it can pick up human voice very naturally in addition to low noises too. This will give you a perfect experience.

  • Voice recording and editing software

The next thing that is integral in your home studio is good quality voice recording and audio editing software from a branded company.

Suppose the audio software you have chosen is of an average category. In that case, it will not be able to set up a professional quality digital audio workstation that can record, mix, compose or edit audio files or MIDI appropriately.

While finalising on any voice recording and editing software, never forget to check if it has a choice of features and functions so that you can deliver the best quality work.

  • A properly configured computer

You would need a computer from a branded make with compatible configurations after you have purchased the audio editing and recording software.

Usually, many voice-over artists prefer a Windows computer or a Mac-OS because they are easy to operate.

However, some people also prefer using a Linux computer for the purpose. So, it is primarily the preference of the user that determines the type of operating system. But a compatible configuration is a mandatory part of this purchase decision.

  • A mic preamp

The next piece of equipment you would need is a mic preamplifier (preamp).

In case you do not know, even the best quality microphone has sound output. Even a good quality audio mixture will also fail to amplify the sound outputs to the desired level. Eventually, it will create quality issues when you are recording audios in your home studio.

This problem can only be ruled out when you have a device that will amplify the audio signals generated from your microphone. The mic preamp does the job of amplifying the audio signal from your microphone.

  • A compatible processor

You will also need a compatible processor that will be a perfect companion for your mic preamp.

For your information, this processor gives your mic preamp the necessary power for amplifying sound outputs. The quality of the processor and its compatibility with the mic preamp also ascertains that you will get the best sound quality from your home studio.

  • A sound mixer

Your home studio will not have a thoroughly professional appeal if you do not have a good quality sound mixer.

A mixer combines and processes the output signals that your microphone generates and presents the audio in the manner you want.

However, if you have a professional-quality sound mixer, it will be an asset for you. It can change the dynamics of the audio signal too!
